This early photo of the west trestle shows a train traveling north. This is most likely because it has switched over on the cross over switch shown in photo #23 and is running clockwise on the southern half and counter-clockwise on the northern half of the system. Proof of the direction of train travel is the position of the northeast corner of the park ice cream parlor and the park pond to the parlor's immediate north in the background at the front of the locomotive. An alternative explanation is that as the west trestle was built before the east trestle at one time trains looped at the far north and south ends of the system running both ways over the west trestle. If this scenario is true it must have been in operation only a short time as the multiple trains on the tracks from the early days on making the one track - two direction configuration dangerous and hard to manage. The west trestle as pictured here appears to be just constructed as the cantilevered safety rails shown in most pictures have not yet been constructed. As seen below ...
